Learning objectives
On completion of the learning module, participants will be better able to:
- Identify the specific memory and cognitive features that raise suspicion for Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and to be able to recognise and distinguish AD from other forms of dementia.
- Review criteria for the diagnosis of AD and other forms of dementia:
- Vascular dementia
- Frontotemporal lobar degeneration (FTLD)
- Corticobasal degeneration
- Multiple system atrophy
- Review criteria for the diagnosis of AD and other forms of dementia:
- Interpret the results of various cognitive screening tools used in patients with suspected dementia (MoCA, MMSE, and RUDAS).
- Set management goals of patients with AD, including initial, long-term, and follow-up care.
- Understand current research regarding the factors associated with AD (smoking, cardiovascular disease) and the recommendations for AD prevention.
- Review and summarise new drug treatment trials.
